About Declan Hill

Declan Hill is an investigative journalist, documentary maker and academic. He specializes in studying organized crime and international issues. Before writing ‘The Fix’ he made documentaries on the killing of the head of the Canadian mafia, blood feuds in Kosovo and ethnic cleansing in Iraq. He has also created documentaries in Kurdistan, India, Bolivia, Mexico, and Turkey.

Declan Hill has worked for CBC Radio ("Ideas", "Dispatches", "The Current", "Tapestry", "Iraq Unit") CBC Television ("Disclosure", "the fifth estate", "Newsworld" and "Newsworld International") and "PBS Frontline". His shows and articles have appeared on BBC Radio World Service and BBC Radio 4: the Guardian and the Sunday Telegraph (London), as well as several new media outlets.

Recently, Declan was a Chevening Scholar at Green College, Oxford where he obtained his doctorate on match-fixing in professional football.

2007: Winner of the 2007 Canadian Association of Journalists best investigative radio documentary.

2003: Amnesty International (Canada) best Human Rights Documentary for “So Many Reasons to Die”: about Kurdish women being killed for their family’s “honour”).

2001: Part of the fifth estate team that won the Michener Award for best public service journalism in Canada: “A Marketable Monster”

1999: Part of the fifth estate team that won the Canadian Association of Journalists award for best television journalism: “Legacy of Pain”
